There are no therapeutic products containing sodium chlorite authorized for oral consumption by humans in Canada. These serious problems include poisoning, kidney failure and harm to red blood cells that reduces the ability of the blood to carry oxygen. Additional health problems may also include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

MMS (Chlorine Dioxide) and traditional chlorine shock differ significantly in their chemical mechanism.
1. Mechanism of Action

        Traditional Chlorine (Hypochlorite): Works by chlorination, adding chlorine atoms to organic contaminants. It is highly effective but reacts with organics (sweat, urine) to form chloramines, which cause the strong “chlorine smell,” eye irritation, and skin itching. 

• MMS (Chlorine Dioxide): Works by oxidation only. It disrupts microbial processes without chlorinating organics. It effectively destroys chloramines and biofilms without creating the irritating byproducts associated with traditional chlorine. 

2. Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)

• Traditional Chlorine: Produces regulated, potentially harmful byproducts like Trihalomethanes (THMs) and Haloacetic Acids (HAAs), which are linked to long-term health risks.  It also increases Combined Chlorine levels if not shocked properly. 

• MMS: Produces significantly fewer harmful DBPs. It does not form THMs or HAAs. Its primary breakdown products are chlorite and chlorate, which are regulated but generally less carcinogenic than THMs. 

3. Effectiveness & Dosage

• Traditional Chlorine: Requires high concentrations (10–30 ppm) to reach “breakpoint chlorination” and kill algae or clear cloudy water. It degrades rapidly in sunlight (UV) unless stabilized with cyanuric acid (CYA).

• MMS: Is effective at much lower concentrations (often 10% of the chlorine dose). It remains stable in sunlight and does not require CYA. It is particularly effective against biofilms and resistant pathogens that chlorine sometimes misses.

For water treatment, food cleaning and surface sanitation. 80% is the highest concentration available for sodium chlorite due to the way it is manufactured. All sodium chlorite starts off as flakes but is usually ground up to make handling and measuring easier. A 28% (w/w) solution will produce 22.4% sodium chlorite concentration.

Sodium chlorite naturally has impurities; after dissolving in water a fine grayish sediment may slowly start to settle to the bottom – we recommend you let the solution settle for a few hours and then use the clear solution.

Warnings: Do not use full strength. Keep out of reach of children. Keep out of direct sunlight. Please do not store for over 6 months in original packaging, and do not store powder or solutions in metal containers. *We suggest storing solutions in a glass container with a plastic lid, if storing past 6 months.

Directions for use in purifying water:

Mix 4 drops of 22.4% Sodium Chlorite with 4 drops of 4% HCL acid. Wait at least 30 seconds for activation or until the solution turns darkish yellow & then add it to a 4 litres of water. Your water should be safe to drink within the hour.
